With the much buzzed Kick-Ass making its way to theaters this weekend (watch the trailer if you haven't), everyone is already wondering what director/producer Matthew Vaughn will do next. We just heard that he might be onboard to direct an adaptation of the 90's comic Bloodshot, but there may be another comic book adaptation lined up instead as UK's The Guardian talked with one of Britain's most famous, Jonathan Ross, who not only hosts a popular talk show and has hosted the BAFTA's for a few years, but has written a comic book called Turf, a crime thriller with aliens and vampires that might just be Vaughn's next project.
Apparently issue #1 just went on sale this week and is already on its second printing run, as the first 20,000 copies sold out on pre-orders alone. If you haven't heard about this series, here's the full official synopsis:
Set in Prohibition-era New York, TURF offers a twist on the hard boiled crime thriller, adds vampires and aliens to the traditional mix of booze, broads and bullets as it chronicles the eruption of a vengeful gang war between booze-smuggling mobsters and the blood thirsty Dragonmir Family. As an ancient prophecy unfolds amidst the maelstrom of violence, the entire city is engulfed by the brutal conflict and the only glimmer of hope is an unlikely alliance between tough guy Eddie Falco and a stranger from another world.
In referencing the series and Vaughn's involvement, The Guardian states that 'there will be five further issues, a hardback collection and, if all goes to plan, a Turf movie made by Matthew Vaughn the producer of Ross's wife's current hit comic-book film Kick-Ass.' Sounds pretty frickin' cool to me, and can only be better if Vaughn is indeed going to be involved in the adaptation. However, since Vaughn's mention of his work on Kick-Ass only mentions him as producer, despite the fact that he also directed the film, perhaps that's all he would do for the project. Since he doesn't yet have another project officially lined up, I'd say either or both are possibilities. Do you think Matthew Vaughn should direct Bloodshot or Turf?
