Get your Casting Tidbits off me you damned dirty ape! First up, Variety has one last addition to the rapidly growing cast of Conan as Rose McGowan joins Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols, Said Taghmaoui, Leo Howard and the now confirmed Ron Perlman. Based on the Robert E. Howard books, the Marcus Nispel directed film is written by Thomas Dean Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheimer, Sean Hood and Andrew Lobel and centers on the mythical hero driven to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village. McGowan plays an evil being who's half human and half witch. Filming is already underway.
Next, Variety also reports Chris Evans has landed the lead role in Puncture, a drama from TV writers / producers the Kassen Brothers which tells the story of a troubled young attorney who must come to terms with his own drug addiction demons when taking on a healthcare giant. Chris Lopta wrote the film which also stars Vinessa Shaw, Mark Kassen (one half of the directing duo), Brett Cullen, Jesse L. Martin, Michel Biehn, Kate Burton, Tess Parker and Marshall Bell. Obviously dealing with healthcare the story is meant to be timely and relevant as Adam Kassen says, 'From the moment we heard about this story, we connected to what it says about the current state of our medical industry and the flawed hero that tries to fix it.'
Also, THR reports one actor has three separate projects set up in his future. Gregory Smith ('Everwood') will join Daniel Craig and Naomi Watts in the Jim Sheridan directed thriller Dream House. He'll also take on a role in a Canadian indie drama from director Chaz Thorne called Whirlgig about a young man who hits rock bottom and returns home to live with his parents. He find comfort with his married neighbor, and when he befriends the woman's adopted 12-year old Vietnamese son, family secrets are revealed. Finally, the third project is Conception from Sorority Row director Josh Stolberg which follows nine couples as they grapple with sex, love and pregnancy. Smith enters a relationship with a divorced woman (Julie Bowen) who has a child. So he'll be busy for awhile.
Finally, Vulture has learned that Emma Stone (Zombieland, Superbad) is in negotiations to appear in Crazy, Stupid Love which is the title of the formerly untitled dramatic vehicle for Steve Carell which also recently added Ryan Gosling. I Love You Philip Morris directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are helming the project which Vulture reveals will follow a sad-sack dad (Carell) whose cheating wife left him, and Gosling is the slick bachelor who tries to train him in womanizing. Apparently revealing Stone's role in the film would be quite the spoiler but it's said to be a pivotal one that ties the whole film together.
Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way!
