Mandate Pictures is producing Diablo Cody’s next project, an original screenplay titled Young Adult that Cody wrote last year. The trades are touting the project as Diablo reteaming with “the team behind Juno”, but we should clarify: that just means Mandate, and doesn’t include director Jason Reitman. No director is yet attached, but Mandate is fast tracking the project so expect someone to be announced soon. Story details can be found, after the jump.
Earlier this week, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter described the film to Vulture as “a movie about a woman who’s stalking her high-school sweetheart.”
“It has elements of humor, but it’s pretty serious and fucked up. You don’t get to see women be antiheroes that often, where it’s like somebody like Mickey Rourke, who gets a comeback in The Wrestler. It’s rarer that you’ll have a studio say, “Let’s have an actress come back and be ugly!”
THR reports that the story follows “a thirtysomething, divorced, young-adult fiction writer in Minneapolis who returns to her hometown to chase the ex-boyfriend, who’s now married with a kid, that got away.”
