I asked for a car, I got Casting Tidbits. How's that for being born under a bad sign? First, RiskyBiz reports that the beautiful Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga) has been cast in the Jim Field Smith directed indie comedy Butter, the story of a young orphan girl who, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an incredible talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife of the retired reigning champ in a town's annual butter-sculpting contest. Joining a newly cast Rob Corddry along with Kate Hudson and Jennifer Garner, Greene will play a rebellious teenager named Kaitlen Pickler.

Next, a couple of actors currently known best for their television work have signed on for a new project, as THR reports Cory Monteith ('Glee') and Katie Cassidy (the new 'Melrose Place') have joined the cast of Monte Carlo, an adaptation of Jules Bass' young-adult book Headhunters, from director Thomas Bezucha (The Family Stone). The film, which has already cast Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Andie MacDowell, centers on a girl (Gomez) who is mistaken for a socialite, resulting in her, her best friend and her soon-to-be stepsister flying to Monte Carlo for a charity auction. The story kicks into adventure mode when a million-dollar necklace goes missing and the girls must scramble to find it. Sounds like someone made up a team of Nancy Drew's for one terrible Olsen Twins worthy movie.

Also, from two different sources, we have three brand new additions for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Production Weekly reports via Twitter that British actor Stephen Graham (Public Enemies, Snatch) is in talks to play a character called Scram, while E! Online reports Max Irons (the son of Jeremy Irons) and Sam Claflin are both competing for the same role that will be used to quench the first of teen girls who will be mourning Orlando Bloom's absence from the series. It's unclear if this role is brand new as the language in the article makes it seem like they could be attempting to replace Bloom as they say the actors are 'both in the running to grab Bloom's big sword and fill his swashbuckler shoes.' Ironically, these two actors are also fighting for the same role in The Girl with the Red Riding Hood.

In addition, Variety reports that Emile Hirsch will be joining The Darkest Hour, a new sci-fi action alien invasion project we heard about last week being produced by Timur Bekmambetov. Hirsch, along with Oliva Thirlby, joins the project as one of a group of kids struggling to survive in Russia after an alien invasion. Chris Gorak (Right at Your Door) will be directing from a script from Les Bohem and Jon Spaihts and while little is known about the story itself, this sounds like a unique approach to the standard alien invasion story, so we'll be keeping our eyes on this one.

Finally, THR also announces that Big Momma's House is getting a little more crowded as Faizon Love (Couples Retreat, Elf), Emily Rios (The Winning Season), Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt) and Michelle Ang (The Beaver) are all joining the third installment of Martin Lawrence's comedy series that will see Lawrence and Brandon T. Jackson as FBI agent Malcolm Turner and his 17-year-old nephew, Trent, (respectively) who go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. Believe me, I'm as excited as you are (ugh).

Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
