In what was probably the biggest upset at the Oscars this year, screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher took home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Precious. Apparently right after Fletcher was finished writing that script and well before he was getting many accolades for his work on the emotional adaptation, Showbiz411 reports he had already began writing a dark comedy called Violet & Daisy. Now it looks like Fletcher will also direct the film which is described as Thelma and Louise meets Superbad and Pulp Fiction (whoa!) with Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) attached to star.

At first it seems like tossing those three aforementioned films into one mash-up seems like a hodgepodge of craziness, but I can see what they're trying to get at. Essentially, take the dark comedy elements of Pulp Fiction, the nature of the comedic duo of raunchiness from Superbad, as well as the female friendship and feminist empowerment of Thelma & Louise, and you've got a film that is said to have 'plenty of action, and lots of girl power.' Unfortunately that's about all we really know about this project at this time, but count me curious. However, none of this is official yet since this was simply part of an overheard conversation at some sort of congratulatory party for Fletcher after his big win, so stay tuned for any further developments.
