Plenty of people know and love Edgar Wright for his stellar work on movies like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the highly anticipated Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Someone you may not know (unless of course you're from the United Kingdom or simply obsessed with British pop culture) is his old friend, collaborator and TV star Joe Cornish who worked with Wright on the scripts for the upcoming adaptations of Ant Man and The Adventures of Tintin. You'll know him better soon as he's making his directorial debut with an alien invasion comedy Attack the Block, which The Playlist discovered might have Nick Frost attached to star.
This news comes from a now deleted (but Google cached) Twitter update from actor Adam Leese who has been listed as part of the cast on IMDB for a while now. In his update on February 21st, Leese said, 'Reading Attack the Block script for 1st read through tomorrow. Looking forward to working with Nick Frost.' That's about as solid confirmation as you're going to get other than an official press release. After Simon Pegg let loose news of Andy Serkis replacing David Tennant on Burke & Hare, it looks like Brits love to let casting scoops slip through on Twitter.
If you're unfamiliar with the project, the story follows a group of hoodies (which is British for mischievous youths in hooded tops), who the media believe are responsible for a wave of muggings, that are interrupted during a street robbery by a flying saucer crash and alien attack. Killing their extra-terrestrial visitor, they return to their work only to discover that there are more aliens out there. The official synopsis (thanks to Twitch) quips: 'Think Assault on Precint 13 only with monsters and a tower block. Or La Haine crossed with Aliens. It's inner city versus outer space.' It also sounds like Shaun of the Dead with aliens, and with that in mind along with that tagline, add this to my list of highly anticipated projects. Sound good?
